Little Things

I just wanted to take the time to say that sometimes life happens and unfortunately there's not a lot we can do about it except suck it up and move on!

But life doesn't always have to get in the way and ruin things! Sometimes the little things can give you that bit of perspective required. I am slowly trying to change my thinking and appreciate these things more.

I had such a lovely evening yesterday I really wanted to share it with you. It wasn't anything special, just a regular Monday evening in our house.

I had quite a long day at work yesterday and having a week off last week due to being unwell meant it was starting to take its toll and I was exhausted. So, I came home, we had a nice dinner and I settled down to watch a bit of TV. I wasn't particulary relaxed nor was I greatly stressed.

But then came the simple bit of hapiness that changed everything.

A simple cup of tea and a madeleine. That is all. Simple huh!?

Now, generally speaking I am not a massive tea drinker, however I do appreciate that sometimes nothing but a strong cup of tea will do. So, as I was sat there waiting for Gadget Man to come on (I love Richard Ayoade!) the other half turns to me and says 'Would you like a cup of tea?' And I just thought, 'Thank you for being amazing'. I didn't ask for it, he just seemed to know exactly what I needed before I did. So a few minutes later he walks in with a big mug of hot tea and a madeleine.

Now, the transformation prompted by that simple mug of tea and cake was miraculous.

I felt my shoulders relax, I sank deeper in the sofa and I felt lighter.

I realised that in that very moment I felt very content, now that's not an easy state to come by nowadays when theres always something to be done or something I want. But in that small moment, that's what I felt, content.

So I challenge you to find a little piece of joy somewhere in your day from something simple, be it tea or cake or something completely different. It may very well make your day, I promise.

  1. I agree! It really are the small things that make the biggest difference. Whether it be from a pet knowing the right moment to cuddle you, your eyeliner being perfectly straight for once, or a good conversation.
